Who are you?
I’m a photographer by passion and a video producer by profession.
What do you want?
Right now, I want to go camping.
Why photography?
Photography is my creative outlet. I’ve never been an eloquent speaker or much of a performer. I'm most comfortable expressing myself through a visual medium that doesn’t require much explanation through words.
What gear do you use?
I primarily shoot on an Olympus OM-2n with a 50mm f1.8 and a 100mm f2.0 lens. My go-to point-and-shoot is a Yashica T4 Zoom. I also have this amazing plastic underwater camera that has lasted me 8 years. I bring it with me when I go swimming or to a body of water.
I use a tripod, long exposure cables, and a Jo Totes camera backpack.
I’ve tried out tons of film cameras and one thing I’ve realized is that I’m way too impatient for cameras without light meters.
Any interests, hobbies, or passions outside of photography?
I’m definitely a social person so I try to revolve my social circles around my passions. I love music, going to underground techno shows, watching movies at home and at the theatre, catching art exhibits, binge playing video games, and cooking in my outdoor kitchen. I also spend too much money on fashion/vintage clothing, but I sell clothes online to justify it.
Music, movies, books, TV, games. What are some of your favorites? Any recommendations?
Music has a huge presence in my life. Some of my music favs at the moment are Soichi Terada, Kraftwerk (always), and Moodymann.
City of God will forever be one of my favorites– I saw it for the first time when I was thirteen. The movie alone influenced my decision to study film. Some directors I love are David Lynch, Wong Kar-wai, Stanley Kubrick, Edward Yang, Hayao Miyazaki, and Luis Buñuel. I'm a huge fan of foreign cinema.
I’m currently reading The Book of Laughter and Forgetting by Milan Kundera. Also really into the world of Tony Robbins right now.
I’m almost done with Zelda: Breath of Wild on Nintendo Switch and I’m sad that it’s almost over. I’ve been putting off beating the game because it’s so much fun lol.
I just finished Wild Wild Country on Netflix and it blew my mind. I can’t believe I never heard of the Rajneeshpuram commune, especially since I lived in Oregon awhile.
Who or what is inspiring you?
Exploring the unfamiliar and traveling is my greatest inspiration. Taking a trip or wandering through a new neighborhood always reboots me. I use Instagram to get daily inspiration from all the amazing photographers I follow. And my boyfriend is my muse, as cliché as that can be. His creative energy definitely fuels mine.
What's one thing about yourself that would surprise most people?
Hmm I’m a really social being, however I’m extremely shy at first. I think that sometimes surprises people.
What's your most prized possession?
My film negatives and my hard drive that stores all my photography. Artwork. Irreplaceable things.
What's your funniest or most embarrassing story?
I’m incredibly clumsy when it comes to my ankles (and only my ankles), and this causes me to sprain them (yes sometimes both) about 1-2 times a year. People who know me well find it amusing...meanwhile I’m always embarrassed about it. Major lol.
Got any words of wisdom or a favorite quote?
Be aware of your passions and prioritize them.
Any other photographers you think people should check out?
I use Instragram primarily to view other photographer's works. I'm fond of the awesome and supportive community of film photographers on there. Some photographer accounts that I adore:
What do you wish someone would ask you?
Great question that I’ve never thought about...What’s your favorite subject to photograph?
What’s the answer to that question?
Since I rarely plan photographs or subjects, it’s whatever inspires me in that moment.
Anything else you’d like to add?
Thanks for interviewing me!
